WRITER Sumbmissions

We reserve the right to gently edit all submissions for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and clarity. However, this is not an excuse to submit poorly executed material. Please proofread your material for errors and submit a professional copy. We will not accept works that include pornography or erotica, child abuse, rape, extreme gore, violence or degrading actions. Please do not submit stories (fiction and creative nonfiction) over 2000 words. All items over the limit will be deleted unread. Poetry should not be more than 50 lines.

Payment Info: The payment is a flat $5.00 for short stories. We currently do not pay for poetry or creative non-fiction. You must have a paypal account.*

Do not submit and then ask to be paid via another way once your story is selected. You will not be paid. Payment is made through a PAYPAL account within 30-45 days after publication.

  1. For short stories, please put SHORT STORY SUBMISSION in the Subject line. Failure to do may result in the deletion of the email. Please do the same for Poetry, and Creative NonFiction.

  2. Cut and Paste submission in the body of the email. Single space and use readable fonts like Times Roman or Courier. All attachments will be deleted unread. Also include the word count, address, title of the work, your full name and email address. Failure to include any of these items will result in the work being returned unread.

  3. Mocha Memoirs does accept reprints. You must include where the piece originally was published, the date it was published and what rights are for sale.

  4. Email short story, poetry, and creative nonfiction submissions to: mocha_memoirs@lycos.com Place in the subject the appropriate line as per Step 2.

The standard response time is between two to four weeks. Please do not query about the status of your submission until this amount of time has passed.

Multiple fiction and creative nonfiction submissions (more than one story at a time) will not be considered. Please wait until you have received the status of your current material before sending new material.

Please include your email address and URL of your website with your story or poem if you wish to receive feedback from readers of Mocha Memoirs. In addition please include a short author bio of 25 words or less to be included with your published work.

Book Review Submissions

If you are passionate readers, no doubt you are accumulating or already have a noteworthy collection. Could you spare a copy or two after you've read them to be used by this ezine's book reviewer? This accomplishes one feat even better than asking publishers for review copies because you - an actual reader - have already selected the book and that is a helpful recommendation.

Even better as a mutual help, if you are one of MochaMemoirs' many author-readers, why not send me your latest ( or a previous ) book ? I can promise an impartial review and it never hurts to have another outlet for publicity, right?

If you are inclined to participate in this adventure, please note the following few guidelines:

  1. BOOKS only are of interest for this review column. ( If you write short stories and/or poetry see the magazine's submission requirements posted elsewhere on this web page).
  2. Most topics and genres will be considered other than overt violence (per se), pornography, abuse to animals or humans and which are not considered, period.
  3. Preference is given to titles published in the past two years whether in the United States or other countries.
  4. As book reviewer, I reserve the right to choose titles in a manner consistent with my current and past policy of trying to provide a robust girth of topics. Your contributions would be warmly welcomed and acknowledged as being an imminent possibility or for later review.
  5. Procedures begin with an email. (See below). Just drop me a line explaining the title and topic of a book you are willing to donate for this purpose and I will promptly send you information about the address to send to. If sent at "book rate", postage will be reimbursed( to patrons who bought books) as funds allow; authors contributing a review copy are expected to donate outright in exchange for the publicity - but are highly encouraged to do so. We welcome all genres and first time authors or experienced writers.

I thank you so much.

MM Asks: Why do you write?

"I write because I love the process of craftsmanship that goes into selecting the right words to give a passage the precise shade of meaning I intend it to convey, and because I want to share my observations or my responses to others' observations concerning the subjects I write about."

~ Matthew Hovious Author of : Secrets of a Painter.

What's our favorite part of the MM site?

"I LOVE the Writer's Nook & Author interviews. I can relate to what the authors and understand what they are going through- I'm a writer too."

~ Bethany, MM Web Admin
