I am Alone

by Debbie DeSisto

I am alone

awash in a sea of hatred no mind to call my own
I am all alone
I hear the wind
it echoes in my mind
the breeze no longer gentle
I am alone

I am alone
I see the rainbow
it holds no joy
it fades quickly

I am alone
I see the sun
it warms no longer
it's rays like daggers

I am alone
The simple is complex
the complex so terrifying
the wonderment of the small
so difficult to see

I am alone
The bright, bold colors
seem brazen and garish
they hold no wonder

I am alone
The light too harsh
The dark too deep
my life is over

I am alone
There is no goodness
the joy is lost
my life is over
I am alone
