Submission Guidelines

Please take a moment and read through our ezine to get a feel for the kind of things we like to publish and to ask yourself if your work might have a home here. After reading through the ezine, return here and read these guidelines completely.

We reserve the right to gently edit all submissions for grammar, spelling, punctutation, and clarity. However, this is not an excuse to submit poorly executed material. Please proofread your material for errors and submit a professional copy.

We will not accept works that include pornography or erotica, child abuse, rape, extreme gore, violence or degrading actions.

	Step 1: Do not submit stories over 1500 words. Book Reviews must not be over 400 words. All items over the limit will be returned unread. Poetry should not be more than 50 lines.
	Step 2: For short stories, please put 'SHORT STORY SUBMISSION' in the Subject line. Failure to do may result in the deletion of the email. Please do the same for Poetry and Book Reviews.
	Step 3: Cut and Paste submission in the body of the email. Single space and use readable fonts like Times Roman or Courier. All attachments will be deleted unread. Also include the word count, address, title of the work, your full name and email address. Failure to include any of these items will result in the work being returned unread.
	Step 4: Mocha Memoirs does accept reprints. You must include where the piece orginially was published, the date it was published and what rights are for sale.
	Step 5: Email all submissions to: mocha_memoirs@lycos.com Place in the subject the appropriate line as per Step 2. The standard response time is between two to four weeks. Please do not query about the status of your submission until this amount of time has passed. Multiple fiction submissions (more than one story at a time) will not be considered. Please wait until you have received the status of your current material before sending new material. Multiple poetry submissions (more than one poem at a time). We no longer accept more than 3 poems for submission from one poet. No rhyming verse or fluff pieces. 50 lines max (each piece). Examine the works of C.K. Williams, Anne Sexton, Sylvia Plath and W.S. Merwin. Please include your email address and URL of your website with your story or poem if you wish to receive feedback from readers of Mocha Memoirs. In addition please include a short author bio of 25 words or less to be included with your published work.

	Payment: Mocha Memoirs pays $5.00 in US Dollars for short story and $2.00 in US Dollars for poem accepted for publication within 30-45 days of publishing. Mocha purchases one-time electronic world rights and/or first electronic rights. There is no pay for book reviews at this time. Mocha Memoirs keeps the stories, poetry and book reviews for three months in the archives. After which all rights revert to the author.
