In Honor of I AM LEGEND...Thursday Thirteen!
In honor of the release of I Am Legend tomorrow, I am doing this Thursday's Thirteen on my favorite 13 Will Smith movies. (Don't be all surprised if the top five are all sf movies.)2. I, Robot
3. Men in Black
4. Wild Wild West--fantasy/urban fantasy
5. Bad Boys II
6. Bad Boys
7. Shark Tale
8. The Pursuit of Happyness
9. Six Degrees of Separation
10. Men in Black II
11. Ali
12. Hitch
13. Made in America

I admit I love everything Will Smith has done. He's amazing. I can't wait to see the new one. I'd go see it in the theatres, but no one to watch the kiddlings.

Ah, I want to go see it too, but I'm torn between watching Sweeny Todd and this one. I'm going to have to bribe someone (well at this point, several someones) to watch my brood so that I can go catch it on the big screen.
Thank you for posting, Moondancer!

Wild Wild West is probably his worst movie. But Selma Hayek and Kevin Kline weren't so good in it, either. He deserved all the every bit of praise he got for Ali, and I loved him in I, Robot, though I'm sure the Asimov purists were very disappointed. I'm looking forward to I Am Legend. How can I pass up a movie with vampire-like monsters AND it's the end of the world?!

I definitely liked Independence Day and Hitch. I think I'll really like I am Legend. It's getting some great reviews. -C

I'd put Wild, Wild West down the list further, like 113th. :) Independence Day is probably my number one favorite, but I'm guessing that I Am Legend will take the top spot once I see it.

Funny I was thinking about my favorite Will Smith movies this weekend also (and yes, I am also a brown skin SF writer (and horror). My order is pretty close to yours:
1. Independence Day
2. I, Robot
3. Men in Black
4. The Pursuit of Happyness
5. Ali
6. Men in Black II
7. Wild Wild West--fantasy/urban fantasy
8. Six Degrees of Separation
9. Hitch
I grew up reading sf and there were few brown folks in the books but that didn’t stop my imagination from taking flight. In my future there were all kinds of people. Now that I’m a writer its joyful to be able to make that happen.
It’s a wonderful thing that Will Smith is drawn to sf/fantasy; the world needs to see brown in the future (as well as other ethnic cultures).

I agree with Linda. There should certainly be others of color in the future. Will Smith taking on more sf roles and fantasy spots shows that the future isn't as pale as some originally thought.
It's good to meet other sf authors of colors. Excellent.
Best,
Nicole
